Maintenance Notice     11/14/2008 10:59:11 PM EST
We are going to shut down for about 15-20 minutes starting at midnight tonight in order to reconfigure the power circuits. We will extend any auctions scheduled to close during this time for approximately an hour.

System Outage     11/14/2008 10:11:39 PM EST
From approximately 6pm to 9pm today GunBroker had a system failure that caused the web site to be offline. This represents our first hard downtime since the infamous EMC failure of February 2002. The cause of today's failure was a failure in a power circuit thought to be redundant. Compounding the issue was a misdiagnosis of the cause which added time to the outage. We have implemented a fix while we work with the vendor to make the circuit fully redundant.

Any auctions that were scheduled to close during the downtime were extended well outside of the downtime.

GunBroker strives for 100% uptime outside of scheduled maintenance windows and scheduled system upgrades. Our systems are engineered to provide multiple levels of redundancy. In spite of our best efforts technology has a way finding any flaws in your design. Even huge companies like eBay and Amazon with their nearly unlimited resources are not immune to system failures.

GunBroker.com management apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused and, as always, is working hard to prevent system problems in the future.

ATF 4473 Update Important      10/15/2008 3:08:43 PM EST
In an attempt to clarify and simplify the completion of the ATF Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Record Part I – Over the Counter) by prospective purchasers and Federal Firearms licensees, ATF has revised and updated the form. The ATF Form 4473 is an important law enforcement tool used to prevent criminals and other prohibited persons from gaining access to firearms. This form is required to be completed by Federal firearms licensees prior to the transfer of a firearm to a nonlicensed person, with limited exceptions. The newest version incorporates many user - friendly features and promises to be easily executed by both purchasers and licensees alike. We would like to thank all the industry members who have submitted their comments and suggestions that were incorporated into this form’s new look and design, and also for their diligent efforts at maintaining complete and accurate records required under the Gun Control Act. This new form and the important notice will be mailed to all licensees beginning the middle of October 2008. (Please see Important Notice).   Major ATF Ruling Authorizing Electronic A&D Books     9/9/2008 8:02:23 PM EST

Following discussion with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association for the firearms industry -- and many industry members, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced yesterday a major new ruling authorizing federal firearms licensees to use electronic (computerized) acquisition and disposition records acquisition and disposition records provided the software used satisfies certain ATF requirements set forth in the ruling signed by Acting Director Michael Sullivan.

FFLs will no longer need to seek a variance from the Director of Industry Operations to keep a computerized A&D book.

"NSSF would like to congratulate ATF, and in particular the leadership of Acting Director Sullivan, on helping to reduce the paperwork burden on industry," said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane. "We look forward to continuing to work with ATF on other ways to utilize technology to aid America's firearms manufacturers and retailers to reduce their paperwork burden while continuing to permit ATF to protect public safety."

The ATF, at the urging of NSSF and firearms retailers, is expected to launch a voluntary E– Form 4473. This is a development which will save retailers time and greatly reduce the likelihood of entry violations.

NSSF's Mission Statement "Our purpose is to provide trusted leadership in addressing industry challenges and in delivering programs and services to meet the identified needs of our members."

It appears that some AOL customers who are using the AOL browser or AOL desktop may have been experiencing difficulty with our search since our Friday morning hardware installation. We believe the problem is resolved but have never been able to reproduce it in-house. If you are using AOL and are continuing to experience a blank page or garbled data please contact customer service.

One simple work-around is to use Internet Explorer or any browser instead of the AOL browser. To do this, minimize the AOL browser and start Internet Explorer from your Start Menu.
